Family Planning and Religion

” Rizik ka wada Allah ne kiya hai” – Food security is promised by God, thats what I hear from most of religious so called pious people. I wonder if that is so, then why do I bother working and earn? why should not I stay at home since food security is promised by God. Why a guy at signal asks me for few pennies for food why does not he stay at home? Why parents are selling their kids and murdering them because of hunger? When ask these questions from them for their ignominious acts, they say that we should not debate to a person who does not have knowledge, who is not correct. I don’t know, how are they so sure about having the complete knowledge? how can a person tell that some particular person is wrong without listening and confessing his point of view?

I was quiet surprised, when couple of days ago some maulanas declared family planning as not allowed in Islam. Lets have kids and kill them when you cant afford them. Is it really allowed in Islam? We as country are already over populated, over corrupted and below literacy level, still we hardly give a damn to such issues and its astonishing, to know that such views against family planning are lauded by bourgeois families.

I am not against the statement that food security is promised by God but God has also rewarded us with mind, we never put hand in fire because we know it hurts. Its not just food that is required but also how you raise your kids in society, that is why, Islam strictly believes in the rights of parents and children. If you can not obey those rights of your children, you will be asked in front of God.

Why all this is supposed to end up with a kid? Kid is on road asking for money that is because his dad could not afford to send him school. Kid is caught in bad acts, because his/her parents never give a damn when he was young. A kid who never studied, never his parents helped him, what can you expect from him in the future? what impact will he put on society?  Ajmal Kasab who was recently caught in big terrorism act ran away from home because his father could not get him Eid clothes. It was not food that he asked. Couple of months ago, a man killed his children because of hunger and declared government a scapegoat. We are not even social animals, animals do not kill their innocent kids. God never does injustice to any one. Those poor kids are God gifted skilled and talented and some how, some of them survive well in our society and rest of them keep blaming their parents.

Our myopic attitude has obfuscated such issues.  What our maulvis say we take it as he is only the right. Some religious scholars support family planning and admit its allowed in Islam.

couldn’t agree more… from the little that i have understood, low-income households reproduce more in search of economic security. most of them are engaged in low-skill, low paying, labor intensive jobs and as soon as they get old, they cannot feed themselves.. that is where the economic security of extended family comes in. so don’t put blame on any one in isolation. unless we provide enough economic security, birth rates in pakistan will never be controlled.

But extended family will again remain low skilled and low paid, and it is not even mandatory that extended family is able to provide you economic security. What if they are unable to get even low paid job security? I am not blaming any one for having kids. I am blaming the way we think of this situations. I agree with you that poor who have labor intensive jobs prefer more kids as they can help them which is pretty fine in that case, but what about those low middle class and middle class families who totally depend on a single job.
